Two road trips in 2024: From Salt Lake City to Las Vegas and south around Death Valley through Sierra Mountains to Yosemite NP in April as Tioga Pass was still closed to winter and snow conditions. Another one from Salt Lake City to Grand Junction, Monument Valley, Hacienda Heights (LA area), Palm Springs, San Diego, Tucson, San Antonio, Grapevine, Florida Panhandle and St Augustine, ending up in Statesville, NC. We change storage for our motorhome and car from Salt Lake City to Statesville, NC. After travelling the West and South West we intend to export the East again and will revisit the Southern Western Open Tennis tournament in Mason (Cincinatti). Of course more than 1600 Photos have been taken. A few of them we would like to share below.

Our 2024 trip to Cuba fell short of expectations, aptly titled “Vanishing Cuba.” After 65 years of communism and socialism, this once-prosperous nation, rich in culture and history, now faces significant challenges. Beautiful cities and villages are often poorly maintained, and many citizens lacking access to foreign currency live in difficult conditions, struggling to make ends meet.
Meanwhile, the ruling elite continues to live in luxury behind gated communities, seemingly oblivious to the struggles of everyday Cubans. Although tourists may not witness the full extent of this disparity, their presence brings vital US dollars that support both the elite’s lifestyle and minimal assistance for the general populace, aimed at preventing unrest. This stark contrast is disheartening, and we urge visitors not to be misled by the photos shared here.
Despite the economic struggles, we encountered many genuinely warm and welcoming individuals who shared fascinating stories about their lives. Their hospitality transformed our visit into a memorable experience that we wouldn’t trade for anything. Cuba may be fading, but the resilience and spirit of its people remain vibrant.

After our fantastic Puma Safari and cruising the Chilean Fjords and glaciers we moved on to Costa Rica. Unfortunately our visit was cut short due to some announced strikes of air personnel in Buenos Aires which made us postpone our flight to Costa Rica. Although only a few days there we got some exciting views of birds.

End of January 2024 we boarded National Geographic Endurance for our third visit to Antartica. A wonderful experience we would like to share with some of thousands pictures we took during this journey.

Kurashiki (Okayama) is a time capsule of life in the merchant quarter of a small town in Japan in the 1600’s. Its perfectly preserved shops and temples are a great place to wander about and imagine you have stepped back in time.

Mount Koya-San is a unique region in Japan. It’s a sacred mountain covered with ancient towering cedar woods that is full of incredible Shinto Shrines and Budhist Temples. It’s a massive complex interspersed through the forest that would literally take you a week or two to see it all.
Here we stayed with the Monks in traditional Tatami guesthouse rooms, its like stepping back in time (but taking a bit of electricity with you). We had an early rise and joined the Monks for the dawn fire ceremony and chanting.
